Team Colin - CHD Heart Walk

Our family is participating in the It's My Heart CHD Heart Walk - 4th Annual Awareness Run/Walk - Noah's Legacy on February 20, 2010 at Sam Houston Park in Downtown Houston.

If anyone is interested in walking with Team Colin or donating towards our fundraising goal, Follow This Link to visit my personal web page and help me in my efforts to support Its My Heart.
If you want to join us in walking, from the link provided click on the "My Team Page" above Colin's picture, then from the team page you can click on "Join our Team".

One of my goals for myself this year is to become more involved in the heart community. I think it is important for Colin to grow up and feel a sense of community with kids just like him. There will be some limitations in Colin’s life and I feel it would be easier if he knew other kids who are or have gone through similar situations. Also as a parent, I think it would help me out a lot. The friendships I have made with other heart moms so far have helped when I needed to talk about things that other parents have no clue about.

So join us for an amazing cause. GO TEAM COLIN!

Here are some interesting CHD facts:
- Congenital Heart Defects are the #1 birth defect.
- Congenital Heart Defects are the #1 cause of birth defect related deaths.
- About 1 out of every 100 babies are born each year with some type of Congenital Heart Defect. (approx. 40,000/year)
- Nearly twice as many children die from Congenital Heart Defects in the United States each year as from all forms of childhood cancers combined, yet funding for pediatric cancer research is five times higher than funding for CHD.
- This year approximately 4,000 babies will not live to see their first birthday because of Congenital Heart Defects.
- The cost for inpatient surgery to repair Congenital Heart Defects exceeds $2.2 billion a year.
- 4-8% born with CHD have Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome - Colin has a variation of this!

The first thought I had was," how are they going to do a walk in FEBRUARY with all that snow??" Oh yeah... not EVERYONE lives in the frosty north like we do. :) Aly really wanted to support Team Colin even though we couldn't be there! :) I am also trying to make a strong effort to support and raise awareness this year. Good luck with your walk! You're almost to your goal already!!!! :) :)

Jenny.. I could NOT handle living in the frosty north. I am a southern girl! It gets below 60 here and I am complaining.
We will be thinking of Aly and so many others that day.
Thanks for your support!

I think this is the year for awareness. I am going to try and do as much as I can to support CHD awareness as well. I will have to support you and Colin from Ohio...yes, it will be COLD here, but we would love to support you (even though we are jealous of your heat). Good luck with the walk!

I decided to go ahead and get you to your goal! I guess if I can't walk in February I can at least support your efforts.
