Fontan Surgery Update # 4

Colin is now POST-FONTAN.. we have been waiting 4 years to say this! He is done now, we just met with the surgeon. Colin did very well and our surgeon is very happy. The echo looks great, shows no leakage on the valves! He stitched up the left one completely since he does not use it and put a few stitches in the right side. He hopes this will stay for a long time and not cause Colin anymore problems.

The Fontan surgery went well and he came off the by-pass machine just fine. The Fontan diverts the venous blood from the right atrium to the pulmonary arteries without passing through the right side of the heart, relieving the right side from doing all the workThey are now trying to get him to wake up a little bit more to be able to breathe on his own so they can take the breathing tube out.

We should be about to see him in about 1.5- 2 hrs. Please keep him in your prayers as the days after surgery are critical still. He has 3 chest tubes in, 2 which will stay in until almost the time we leave. He has 3 arterial lines in (his groin, neck, and wrist). The plan tomorrow is to get him to sit up and get one chest tube and the groin and neck line out.

I can't wait to see him, it has been a LONG 8 hrs since we left him. Thank you all for your prayers and support, keep them coming. Pray for an uneventful and quick recovery. We want to go home soon and continue on with our POST FONTAN lives! I can't wait to see his pink toes and fingers instead of the blue ones :)

How seriously fantastic to hear. Remember my advice to make sure he is fully medicated when they start taking those tubes out.... especially those last ones. Thanks for the updates. The kids added Colin to thier prayer list last week. :)
